The Bedia community, known for their traditional singing and dancing as ‘rai’ folk artists, thrived during the monarchy rule in central India. However, with the end of the monarchy and changes in state laws, the Bedias found themselves without means for survival. As a result, many Bedia women turned to prostitution as their primary source of livelihood.

In the face of these challenges, “Samvedna,” an incredible NGO in Madhya Pradesh, has dedicated itself to uplifting the Bedia community and liberating women from the clutches of prostitution. Recognizing the importance of providing alternative career opportunities for the Bedia youth, Dheya Kaaryam recently took the initiative to conduct specialized training for 15 Samvedna staff members, transforming them into skilled career mentors.

The mentor training program was a comprehensive endeavor that encompassed both online modules and a 3-day offline session held in Bhopal. During this training, participants delved into the concepts and processes of psychometric assessment and career guidance. Through practical exercises and interactive sessions, the Samvedna staff members emerged fully equipped to guide and inspire the Bedia youth towards brighter futures.

Armed with newfound knowledge and resources from Dheya, these dedicated mentors are now poised to create a positive impact on the lives of the Bedia community. With their guidance and support, the Bedia youth will have the opportunity to explore alternative career paths, breaking free from the cycle of prostitution and embracing a more promising future.
